The Executive Board of the Muslim Community in Rwanda (RMC) announced that the Eid al-Adha 2026 festival will be a public holiday for all workers in Rwanda.

Muslims was celebrated Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice. It celebrated today on 27th May 2027 and is the second most important holiday in Islam.
Eid al-Adha is celebrated by Muslims worldwide, commemorating the day Prophet Abraham showed obedience to God by being willing to sacrifice his only son.
It is a festival characterized by the gathering of livestock—both small and large animals—which are sacrificed on the day of Eid al-Adha. Muslims share the meat with friends, neighbors, and the less privileged, including Christians of other faiths.
Nationally, the celebration took place in Nyamirambo, where Muslims in Rwanda joined others around the world on Wednesday, 27 May, to mark Eid al-Adha. They were encouraged to abandon conflicts and embrace love, unity, and cooperation.
Eid al-Adha is different from Eid al-Fitr, which comes after the fasting month of Ramadan. Muslims observe Eid al-Adha following the tradition of Abraham, who, according to the Qur’an, was willing to sacrifice his son Ishmael, but God replaced him with a ram.
On this day, Muslims slaughter animals such as goats, cattle, sheep, and camels, and share the meat with the less fortunate.
Date of Eid al-Adha 2026
One of the frequently asked questions has been the exact date of Eid al-Adha 2026. After confirmation based on the Islamic calendar and moon sighting, Eid al-Adha 2026 was observed on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
Because the Islamic calendar is lunar, Eid dates may vary from one country or region to another. However, in 2026, many communities observed Eid al-Adha on 27/05/2026.
The celebration was marked by prayers, family gatherings, acts of charity, and reflection on the message of sacrifice and obedience to God.
On this day, those who are financially able perform the ritual sacrifice.
THE TRUE SACRIFICE (EID AL-ADHA) –
In a village filled with peace and light,
Eid arrives with joy shining bright,
Prayers rise gently to the sky,
Hearts give thanks as moments fly.
Yet in Niyonsenga’s humble home,
Thoughts of sacrifice quietly roam,
No means to offer livestock today,
Still faith and hope would not decay.
Karim, the child, with tender heart,
Feels the pain that life may impart,
His father speaks with calm and grace,
Words of truth time cannot erase:
“Sacrifice is not just meat alone,
Not what is placed on dining stone,
It is a heart that gives and cares,
A love that heals, a soul that shares.”
Karim then rises, spirit strong,
Choosing kindness all day long,
He visits neighbors, helps the weak,
Comforts those too tired to speak.
The village sees his noble way,
And honors him that blessed day,
For true Eid is not what we eat,
But kindness shared on every street.
May I wish all Muslims and all Rwandans a blessed Eid al-Adha 2026. May it bring peace, joy, love, and blessings to your families. May God continue to protect you and fulfill the good desires of your hearts. Eid Mubarak!
